Madras and the surrounding Jefferson County high desert are a globally significant specialty-seed capital, producing an estimated 70 percent of the world's hybrid carrot seed along with Kentucky bluegrass seed, garlic seed, and certified seed potatoes. Roughly 60,000 acres of irrigated cropland, isolated by geography to keep seed lines pure, also grow peppermint, forage grasses, and hay.
Precision seed production depends on carefully managed irrigation, custom application, isolation and rotation planning, and specialized harvest support, backed by OSU's Central Oregon Agricultural Research and Extension Center in Madras.
Agnomy connects Madras-area growers with verified local service providers who understand Deschutes Basin irrigation, seed-crop isolation, and high-desert schedules, making it easier to find, book, and manage the services your operation needs.
