California's H-2A wage floor has been near $20 per hour. The program requires advance filing, so planning months ahead of the season is essential.

Demand peaks during harvest, which in California's Central Valley spans summer through fall depending on the crop, plus spring thinning and pruning windows. Specialty crops like tree fruit, grapes, and nuts drive the heaviest seasonal needs. Crews are often booked well ahead because many farms compete for the same workers at once.

Seasonal labor is paid at or above California minimum wage, often on piece rates for harvest tasks so faster pickers earn more. H-2A workers carry added employer costs for housing, transport, and the mandated wage rate. Total cost rises at peak harvest when many farms compete for limited workers.
